HOT PROPERTY 16-year-old Luke Harrison has been announced as the second rider for the Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2024.<\/p>\n
Harrison shone in the youth ranks, winning the 125cc class of the British Youth Championship in 2019, before a hat-trick of success in the 250cc class between 2020 and 2022.<\/p>\n
He scored a maximum in an unattached appearance for Mildenhall in the National League in October 2022, before riding for Workington Comets in the NL in 2023, scoring 121 points from 14 matches, for a calculated match average of 7.01. He also made 14 guest appearances for Redcar in the Championship, after an injury to Jake Mulford.<\/p>\n
He will join Scunthorpe on a 2.00 assessed average.<\/p>\n
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: \u201cWe are Luke\u2019s local club \u2013 he lives just up the road from us in Barnetby. But he had a choice of clubs to sign for, so I\u2019m delighted that he\u2019s decided to ride for us. He\u2019s such a talented young rider and it\u2019s going to be exciting to watch him progress as a Scunthorpe rider.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI think it was always supposed to be. I went to Luke\u2019s school around six years, to present him with an award. At that point, we shook hands and I said we\u2019d have him as a Scunthorpe Scorpion once he was old enough. And that\u2019s exactly what has happened!<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThe great thing about Luke is that he\u2019s already built up so much experience of tracks, not just at Scunthorpe. For example, Berwick ran a junior programme of 125s and 250s, fair play to them, so Luke and dad Andy would travel up there every weekend. He\u2019s probably done more laps around Berwick than our Eddie Wright Raceway.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cHe scored some good points for Redcar when they used him as a guest in 2023 and he learned a lot from that. I watched him a fair bit and I\u2019m genuinely excited what he can do coming into the league as it will be in 2024.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThe 38-point-limit will pit Luke at reserve against riders he competed against in the National League at Workington \u2013 riders Luke has already shown that he can beat. What made Luke\u2019s achievements in 2023 even more impressive was that he started the season with an injury \u2013 but didn\u2019t let him slow him down once he was back and fully fit.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cSimon Lambert has been really good with Luke as well. They both rode in that testimonial meeting at Redcar for Stuart Robson and Simon told me that Luke went flying past him and he couldn\u2019t catch him!
